Laborers’ District Council Training & Learning Center

Project Overview

The site of the former William Penn High School is now home to the new Laborers’ District Council Training and Learning Center – Samuel Staten Jr. Building, which will provide fundamental education programs for Union and community members alike.

O&N provided structural engineering services for this spacious 3-story, 60,000 SF community asset which houses a variety of spaces including an auditorium, meeting spaces, classrooms, office space, and training areas. The facility also includes approximately 10,000 GSF of green roof/terrace space.  The primary structural framing system and building perimeter were supported by a deep foundation and grade beam system. The structural design incorporated gravity support for primary mechanical equipment, air handling equipment, and other systems as well as framing information for the roof top pergola structure.
