Chemours Discovery Hub

Project Overview

O’Donnell & Naccarato provided structural engineering services for the 3-and-4-story, 312,000 SF state of the art research and innovation facility for The Chemours Company. Located on the University of Delaware’s Science, Technology and Advanced Research (STAR) campus, the composite steel-framed structure houses more than 300 of the company’s top researchers and scientists and was designed to support more than 130 wet and dry laboratory spaces, fifty specialty rooms, office spaces, and conference rooms.

O&N worked closely with a vibration consultant to meet the strict criteria set by the owner and their sensitive laboratory equipment. More than 2,000 windows line the Discovery Hub, maximizing the use of natural light through the building’s open floorplan. More than 1.4 million pounds of ductwork and 26 miles of piping and tubing were installed to serve the Discovery Hub’s laboratory spaces.
