O’Donnell & Naccarato Mourns Loss of Founder, William F. O’Donnell

Honoring Our Founder: William F. O’Donnell III, PE (1944-2019)

William F. O’Donnell was a proud graduate of Villanova University where he earned his degree in Civil Engineering in 1965. After working for CertainTeed and Day & Zimmerman, he served for two years as an engineer in the U.S. Army in South Korea. In 1968, Bill joined the firm of Seymour W. Greenberg. Bill’s classmate at Villanova, Pete Naccarato joined the firm in 1974 and the firm was renamed Greenberg, O’Donnell & Naccarato. In 1981, the name changed to O’Donnell & Naccarato and the company as we know it today was founded in the historic Bourse Building in Philadelphia.

Over the past three decades, Bill spearheaded many notable projects in the Philadelphia region, including: Villanova’s West Campus expansion, a new science building, and expansion at Roman Catholic High School, the renovation of Saints Peter & Paul Cathedral, the King of Prussia Mall parking garages, and Harrah’s Chester Downs Harness Racetrack to name a few. In addition, Bill was heavily involved in the renovations of the historic Bourse Building where his company was founded as well as the renovations of the historic Lit Brothers Building where the company now resides.

William F. O’Donnell will forever be a part of the soul of O’Donnell & Naccarato, the company that bears his name. He was a dynamic leader, a stalwart supporter, a loyal friend, and an empowering mentor with a vibrant spirit and a calming presence. Bill’s “people first” approach is still evident within our company in both his unwavering support and friendships with our clients. His impact on the construction community of the Philadelphia area was widespread and will continue to contribute to our present and future successes for decades to come.

The Carmel, Indiana based structural engineering firm McComas Engineering has merged operations with O’Donnell & Naccarato.

The entire McComas engineering firm staff, including office leaders Rod McComas, PE, SE and Tom Miltner, PE, will continue to serve regional clients as McComas / O’Donnell & Naccarato. This acquisition strengthens O’Donnell & Naccarato’s geographic position and services on a national level. The combined firms with more than 100 employees in 5 regional offices are registered to perform design and restoration services in 49 of the 50 states and Washington D.C.

“This move to establish a position in the Midwest has been a strategic objective for some time and McComas was a natural fit. We were impressed by their technical capabilities, relationship-driven approach, potential for expansion and their inclusive, welcoming culture.”

Anthony Naccarato, PE, SECB, President of O’Donnell & Naccarato

The addition of McComas increases O’Donnell & Naccarato’s core building design services by offering specialty engineering for precast concrete, cold-formed-steel and other contractor services. McComas’ engineering firm also provides specialized structural design to the aquatics industry for competition pools, dive towers and leisure swimming pools throughout the country.

“Earlier this year we conducted an extensive search seeking an opportunity like this. O&N made the decision easy as a firm whose core values and business approach fell in line with our own. The merger provides McComas the opportunity for growth and access to a new pool of talent, which will benefit our new and longstanding clients.”

Rod McComas, PE, SE, President of McComas Engineering
