Muhlenberg College Fahy Commons

Project Overview

As the first new construction on Muhlenberg’s campus in 16 years, the 3-story, 20,000 SF Fahy Commons not only breathes new life into the campus, but the surrounding environment as well. From the biophilic design, as well as the LEED Gold construction standards, the structure utilizes 70% less energy than a typical structure thanks to rooftop solar panels and efficient heating, cooling, and lighting systems. Covered bike storage and electric vehicle charging stations support low-impact transportation, while native landscaping thrives outdoors without the use of chemical fertilizers.

The facility includes space for art studios, a maker space, academic spaces, and shared spaces such as conference rooms, and terraces that double as outdoor classrooms. The building is constructed as one of the first 20 projects in the world to pursue the Living Building Challenge CORE certification — the most advanced measure of sustainability in the built environment.
