Bay Head Yacht Club

Project Overview

Following severe flooding during Superstorm Sandy, the historic Bay Head Yacht Club building, originally constructed in 1889, required a significant restoration and relocation effort. To preserve the 85-year-old structure, it was temporarily relocated 120 feet from its original position, allowing O’Donnell & Naccarato to design a robust new foundation system.

The new foundation features 100 concrete-filled steel piles driven 80 feet deep into the Barnegat Bay, along with a filigree transfer slab to ensure stability and resilience. Once the foundation was completed, the building was raised 14 feet, repositioned over the new foundation, and carefully lowered into place. This design not only safeguards the historic structure from future flooding but also preserves its legacy for generations to come.
